Dr. Rao is drawn to all aspects of dentistry and is especially focused on restoring patients’ mouths and smiles so they can look their best and function normally. By listening to patients and taking a holistic approach considering that the mouth is just one part of the body, Dr. Rao is able to create unique and tailored treatment plans that best suit the patient. Dr. Rao became a dentist as it is a unique specialty in which the dentist not only diagnoses a problem, but is the one to solve the problem while taking into consideration many different factors.

Dr. Rao came to Portland to pursue an extra year of training in the general practice residency program (GPR) at Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Rao gained valuable experience treating medically complex patients and special needs patients in both the clinical setting and the operating room. Dr Rao brings this experience to Inspire Dental with a greater understanding of medicine as he rotated with anesthesiologists, oral surgeons, sleep doctors, hematologists, and family medicine doctors to better understand how the oral cavity interacts with the rest of the body. Additionally, Dr. Rao became involved volunteering at a student run clinic providing free dental care to the underserved. He enjoyed this experience so much, that he is now a clinical assistant professor so that he can continue mentoring and teaching dental students.

In his spare time, Dr. Rao is an avid outdoorsman and sports fan. He can be found hiking the trails all over Oregon as well as fishing in its various rivers and creeks. He also likes to play soccer and basketball, and loves watching both sports as well.
